    Default Translation help

Recently a got a scroll with the following kanji

    Ž¢?@•î?@Ž¢?@˜\
    ‚È‚ñ‚¶‚Ì‚Ù‚¤?@‚È‚ñ‚¶‚Ì‚ë‚_‚Í

    –¯?@?p?@–¯?@Ž‰
    ‚½‚Ý‚Ì‚±‚¤?@?@‚½‚Ý‚Ì‚µ‚È‚è

    ‰º?@–¯?@ˆÕ?@‹s
    ‚©‚Ý‚ñ‚Í?@?@?@‚µ‚¢‚½‚°‚â‚·‚«‚à

    ?ã?@“V?@“ï?@‹\
    ‚¶‚傤‚Ä‚ñ‚Í?@‚_‚³‚Þ‚«‚ª‚½‚µ

I understand this is written in a tombstone, and I have an idea of its meaning, but can someone of you guys help me to translate it or tell me where can I get more information of its meaning?

    Thanks,
    S.Lopez.

I would hazard a guess that the kanji bit is actually Chinese (kambun) with the Japanese reading (and particles) below.

I am at work so I can't work on this now, but that is my first impression.

    A Japanese translation:

    ‚¨‘O‚½‚¿–ð?l‚Ì•î˜\‚Í–¯‚ÌŠ¾‚ÆŽ‰‚ÌŒ‹?»‚Å?E‚é?B–¯‚ð‚¢‚¶‚ß‚Ä‚à‚Á‚Æ?i‚èŽæ‚é‚͈̂Ղµ‚¢‚ª?A“V‚͉½‚Å‚à‚¨Œ©’Ê ‚µ‚¾?B

FWIW, a search on the characters (first line) will turn up a large number of Japanese and Chinese pages explaining (or at least referring to) the verse.

    Thanks Adam,

But abusing of your kindness, could you give an English translation of the verse? My skills on japanese are very limited.

    Thanks again.

    Hello,

I studied a little bit of Japanese, but Chinese is my first language. I have to agree that it definitely looks like old Chinese to me.

My knowledge of old Chinese is limited, but here is my interpretation of what it says:

    Ž¢?@•î?@Ž¢?@˜\
    you serve, you receive

    –¯?@?p?@–¯?@Ž‰
    ‚½‚Ý‚Ì‚±‚¤?@?@‚½‚Ý‚Ì‚µ‚È‚è
The flesh of the people, the fat of the people

    ‰º?@–¯?@ˆÕ?@‹s
    ‚©‚Ý‚ñ‚Í?@?@?@‚µ‚¢‚½‚°‚â‚·‚«‚à

It's easy to abuse the people of lower class

    ?ã?@“V?@“ï?@‹\
    ‚¶‚傤‚Ä‚ñ‚Í?@‚_‚³‚Þ‚«‚ª‚½‚µ

[But] it's difficult to bully/ fool the heaven.
(the word ‹\ can mean to lie to, cover up your !!!, or to bully in Chinese)

Again, just my very unacademic interpretation!
