    A good primer is Mina Hall's "Big Book of Sumo". You may also want to have a look at Clyde Newton's Dynamic Sumo. Unfortunately most books on Sumo are not intended to be sumo training manuals.

    The best resource is a video, also called Dynamic Sumo. You can order it here:

    I would love to find a good Sumo training manual but there isn't one yet, at least not in English.

    In the interim, I would recommend studying Judo and Aikido, working the flexibility across the groin muscles and coiming off the line fast and hard for the tachiai.

    Where are you located, Dave? I might be able to recommend someone in your area. If you're in California look up Trent Sabo. He is a really good Sumo instructor.
