    Exclamation Zen Training

Zen and the Japanese Martial Arts. The glove is lifeless without the hand. Zen training is what brings the breath of life into many of Japan's ancient arts. The practice of Zen meditation is crucial to ones further developement in Budo and Bujutsu.

Sorry David, but IMHO this is not correct. Zen and budo is largely a modern association and not very historic. We have had this discussion here more than a few times.

    Thumbs up Indeed

    Indeed,
"it is customary to think that the Japanese masters are all inspired by the philosophy of Zen Buddhism. Far from it, all dojo and Japanese ryu are inspired by the Shinto spirit. A small Shinto shrine presides over every dojo. When Zen influence made its presence felt, it superposed Shinto practice which is original and fundamental."

You are absolutely correct Mr. Lindsey. That was more a matter of my personal opinion.

So how long have Zen and budo been a part of each other?
