    Default Sharp Phil

    Phil,

I am stateside and looking to buy a small carry implement for my return to japan. I am looking right now at cold steel's "spike". Main considerations are quality, but also unfortunately an under 50 buck price tag. Any recs?

If I get the spike I will write a review of it for you, btw.

Phil, go fight, or go and report on this.

    Please.

With sugary steel filings on top?

I received an invitation but there is no way I will be able to make it out there, I don't think. I suppose that could change but I am not sure. I am very busy right now and don't have nearly the time to travel I might like.

As for the Cold Steel spike, it would serve the purpose you seem to want it to serve, as would any of several other knives -- but I have no idea what the laws are in Japan and so could not in good conscience recommend anything specific. Columbia River Knife and Tool offers many good knives within the price limit you've mentioned, and I can think of many others. It all depends on what you want your "carry implement" to do.

Have you considered a flashlight? It's a legal alternative that makes a good impact weapon. I sell a specific brand but there are many on the market.

    Default Thanks

Yeah, I carry a surefire tac flash at times, but mainly because of paranoia related to being underground in the event of an earthquake.

I will check out the brands you mentioned. Frankly I am uncertain as to the legality issues either, which is another reason I find the spike to be a charming selection. It just fits so well up a sleeve.

    Dan,

    What a great idea!

    Too bad e-budo doesn't form a TEAM!

    Cool events!

P.S. You probaly could get that flashlight through customs too.

See my thread in News from Japan to see what I got through customs on my way here.

    Dan,

The Spike is certainly an inexpensive and effective blade. I could not in good conscience encourage you to do anything illegal, of course.
