I would like to know if shugendo is still practiced, and where.
Any URLs you have to suggest?

In the 70's, Carmen Blacker wrote The Catalpa Bow and described a Shugendo ascetic journey she was allowed to go on. She went back some years later and said the practice was pretty tepid compared to what she'd seen (itself a pale imitation of prior practices.) Remeber, Shugendo was actively suppressed by the government. What's left is probably just fragments.
There was a special issue of the Japanese Journal of Religious Studies devoted to Shugendo: June–September 1989, 16/2–3, Shugendo and Mountain Religion in Japan, Edited by Royall Tyler and Paul L. Swanson. Read the nine articles in full text at http://www.nanzan-u.ac.jp/SHUBUNKEN/.../jjrs/jjrs.htm (Click on "CUMULATIVE CONTENTS (on-line from 1974 )" on left side of page and then do a find on "Royall Tyler" on the linked page. That'll take you to the issue.)
Also, there was a post somewhere in the last few days with a link to a Shugendo page. Someone else may recall it for you. Hope this helps. Let us know what you come up with.
All the best.
