    Default Seattle Study Group

Aikido Eastside in Bellevue, WA has a study group which is overseen by Howard Popkin Sensei. Popkin Sensei trained under Okamoto Seigo in the Daito Ryu Roppokai. He and Joe Brogna Sensei recently formed their own organization named the Daito Ryu Ginjukai. Popkin Sensei and / or Brogna Sensei come to our dojo several times a year to conduct seminars including their West Coast 4-Day Intensive held each summer.

Aikido Eastside is an Aikido school and all of the students in the Daito Ryu Study Group are Aikido students who cross train. The dedicated Daito Ryu class meets only once per week. So, our school would be an adequate place to get some very basic exposure to this very soft branch of Daito Ryu but someone wishing to be really serious should contact Popkin Sensei who lives in New York state.

I'm one of the Hoshu Dojo folks responding on behalf of Tom Groendal, the head instructor who is having issues registering for the forum at the moment.

Tom teaches Daito-Ryu in Portland, OR, and you can find out more about his lineage on the Portland section of the website (http://hoshudojo.com/portland/) and in the instructors section (http://hoshudojo.com/instructors/).

Our teacher, Goto-Sensei, is actually coming in August and we will be hosting an "Introduction to Daito Ryu Seminar" in Oregon, if anyone is interested in attending. You can find more information about the seminar here: http://hoshudojo.com/2014-portland-seminar/

Out of interest, how did you hear about us? We are always happy to make more connections within the community.

    Thanks,
    -Marcus

    Hi Marcus,

I am curious about Kei Goto Sensei's history and lineage. Is there any information available?

    Thanks,

    Hello Marcus,

Do you have a little bit more info other than that he was a student of Tokimune Takeda? Was he a Kyoju Dairi?

    Thanks,

I just read your PDF for your seminar and it clearly stated that Goto sensei has a Kyoju form Takeda Sensei. I hope you guys have a good turnout.

I don't know anything about Daito Ryu in the Phillipines, but if there is a dojo I'd simply contact them. My knowledge outside our lineage is quite limited, but my impression is that most are welcoming.
