Thread: Posting tricks?

  1. #1

    Question

I was wondering how to insert a part of someone elses post in a post I do. I've seen others do it but am apparently too dense to figure out how. I would like to use it to reply to a specific line or statement in a post. Also How do I insert icons in the text?

    Thank you

    G'Day Jeff

There are a number of buttons along the bottom of each post, they link to the profile of the poster, email the poster, edit the post and finally reply with quote. Just select that option and you will get a reply box with the original text quoted.

Another way is is to use what are called Vb codes, these are a simple form of the HTML language and allow you to quote, bold, italicise and underline your text. To quote simply prefix and end your text with the "quote" Vb code.

    Code:
    {QUOTE} This is how I quote! {/QUOTE}
Replace the curly brackets {} with square ones [] to get the code to work.

For full information click the FAQ link at the bottom of every page and follow the links to Vb codes, smilies, etc.

    Regards

    Neil

    Hi Jeff

For the icons (called smilies) see the thread titled "Smilies" in this forum, I had the same problem as you and asked a similar question, the definitive answer is there.

Next question in the "I'm so stupid" category:

I can post pics I find on the internet by entering the URL for that picture, but I can't seem to figure out how to upload a jpg from my hard drive to insert into a post. How do I do that?

Kit, I had to edit your post since it was causing display problems.

If there's some way to do that (other than uploading it to a website) I'd like to know too, but as far as I know, ya can't.

To post pictures, hit reply. Underneath the options, you will see "attach file" and the browse button to the right side. Click on browse and it will go to your harddrive. Find the pic you want to upload and select "open" and then submit the message as usual.

Find the pic you want to upload
Isn't this limited to a certain size?

Yes, and the size limit should be under the "Attach file," and so are the file types accepted which are under the window and "browse" button. If it is too large or the wrong file type, you should be notified by a window telling you why you can upload it, so you won't have to wait that long. Text can be uploaded as well, and show as a hyperlink. Keep clicking open until you finally click on the pic name.

You should check to see the size of the pic or text you want to upload. Most photo editors can help you resize, and believe me, I'm a no-dan in cyber-dojo. The limit is 102,400 bytes.
