2:00 AM here. I drank some sparkling cider after the ball dropped and I just had some 100% pomegranate-blueberry juice

    Blwyddwyn Newydd Dda!
    明けましておめでとうございます。
    Happy New Year!

From Guji Yukiyasu Yamamoto, 97th High Priest of Tsubaki Grand Shrine of Ise, Japan, I would like to pass on the following:

We are now entering into the year 2006, the special year for Japan, as Okihiki Gyoji 御木曳行事, will take place. This is for people to pull the sacred lumbers by the mountain cart to be used for the 62nd reconstruction of Ise Grand Shrine, which will be completed in 2013.

The year 2006, according to Shinto view of 運勢, Unsei or the Life Trend, is characterized as the year of Hinoe Inu Sanpeki Mokusei, 丙戌三碧木星中宮, the year of the Dog. According to Shinto vision, the year 2006 will be cerebrated by new 氣, Ki , the full of vigor and motivation. The new Ki in 2006 will encourage such an attitude as “I will do it right now!” and will significantly assist those who are not hesitating to make difficult decisions for new directions and progresses.

The kami, Yamatohime no Mikoto, 倭姫命, who gave the divine guidance to locate Tsubaki Grand Shrine at the present site, around 3 B.C, depicted the profound way of making progress as “check and check again everything by seeing and perceiving deeply.”

Sarutahiko no Ohkami, the main deity of Tsubaki Grand Shrine in Japan and in Tsubaki America Shrine, is the head of all earthly kami and the kami of leading us toward peace and happiness. Sarutahiko no Ohkami, therefore, always guides you to find very positive way, whenever you have trouble! To receive his profound power, let us chant, “harae tamae kiyome tamae, rokkonshojo!,” do simple things such as keeping your house clean and neat, and expressing your appreciation to others as well as to the kami.
Happy New Year to all, and best wishes for 2006.
    Yours in Budo,
    ---Brian---

woke up with a headache and didn't even do any drinking.

Watched the fireworks at Seattle Center after an evening with friends that included Thai food and the theater. Comedies from the Restoration can be just a bit odd.....
