"The most sophisticated practitioner of Wing Chun in Hong Kong".... has about a ten inch punch. Did you notice all the pull-back? I learned 1 inch punch when I was in my teens. There's nothing mystical or special about it, just mechanics. And really, one should be able to do it from no distace, not yank your arm back to throw it.

    Whatever.

Quit your griping, Connolly. GAWD! As if!

I could totally punch you many times. And then you'd cry.

Did anyone see the punch the host himself was performing? That's the one I was really in question about.

Derren Brown is an illusionist not a martial artist. I think he should enter a UFC fight and see how he goes. Just imagine Derren Brown v/s Royce Gracie. I'd love to see if his illusions work then.

Derren Brown is an English "entertainer" who has a unique presentation that has made a lot of people sit up and question the stuff they have been taking for granted. If you can catch one of his shows on TV then I recommend it.

Basically, he declares at the beginning that he is not "magic" nor can he perform miracles. He explains that he will use techniques from Psychology, hypnosis and stagecraft to allow him to manipulate his subjects. He then gets people to perform the kind of weird things that less honest people would call "magical". He can "apparently" read people's minds (but then he'll teach a novice how to do the same thing, without necessarily giving all the secrets to the viewer). With relevance to Martial Arts fans, he can do a wicked "Chi power demo", then show a novice how to do the same thing. That's not all he does though, so don't go expecting him to be all about martial arts, because then you'd be disappointed.

You should try the Russian Roulette he performed live on TV with your dog. I think you may actually kill the pooch if you did.

That was shown on UK TV about 3-4 years ago. Darren Brown does have a lot of skill regarding manipulation of peoples thoughts including a London cabbie trying to get him to take Darren to the London Eye. Even though he was in front of it pointing to the landmark, the cabbie claimed that he had no idea what the Eye was or where.

All Darren is doing is Genjutsu. It is a form of manipulation of the viewer as to what they see. If you look at Soke Hatsumi book Essence of Ninjutsu, it tells of Genjutsu at chapter 3 along with Donjinjutsu (eating whole animals and humans, which is also performed as a trick in the ancient times of Japan) and lycanthropy.
