    Default I need help please.

Hello to you all for this is my first post.

I am very interested in learning at least one style of Japanese sword art. So far ive considered Kendo at the UTKA (university of texas kendo associasion), i started having second thoughts about this because the classes are very popular and by no means are they small classes, if anyone knows of a central texas kendo school with smaller numbers please let me know.
Also while i was talking with and acuantince at www.swordarts.com he was saying that kendo is more of a traditional based "game", Id like somthing that is really traditional, so he told me about Kenjutsu, Iaijutsu, then i mentioned that id liek to learn two sword such as musashi practiced and mastered, he told me about Niten ichi Ryu, and refered to Jinenkan again, because i also told him earlier i was iterested in traditional Ninjitsu, and thats one o the ones he perscribed that i would consider taking. He also told me some kendo schools teach two sword shinai, but i dont know if UT does so.

Any information about any of the arts i listed in the centeral texas area would be exellent, and i would highley appreciate it. Danke.

Also, any information about a martial art that teaches you how to use the dao would be usuful.

This forum is for Japanese Bugei. The dao that you seek is of Chinese origins. Perhaps a chinese martial forum might be a more approriate place to ask.

    William:

You might try BudoSeek.net for that information.

You might try the Dojo finder forum at the top of the page. A very similar request was just made in their. Turns out there is a Yagyu Shinkage Ryu dojo in Austin. Sounds like it might be what you are after.

Sorry. UTKA is the only Central Texas kendo org. If you're looking for kenjutsu, your best bet is Jansek-sensei with the Yagyu group. Good bunch of guys.

ja i was really considering not taking kendo, dont get me wrong its probable really good, but id rather learn to use one traditionally than for a point sparring type thing.

Then definitely check out the Yagyu dojo... it doesn't get any more traditional or authentic.

No problem, Alex. I was going to join until I found out that UT's law school didn't accept me. Now I'm stuck in Waco, at Baylor.

In that case, your stuck roughly equadistant between Austin and Denton which are probably the two closest training oppurtunities to you. Plano might be closer... not sure. At any rate, there's not much nearby that I know of.

Yeah, I thought about commuting, but I spend most of my weekends working anyhow. Like right now... most people are out doing things on a Friday night, but me... I'm curled up with a nice mug of coffee and my contracts casebook. Now that's a fun evening.

Though this is a forum that focuses on Japanese tradition, may I risk raising the ire of the JSA practitioners (:-) ) by suggesting that there are also HAE DONG GUM DO schools and groups in Texas? The quality of the instruction can vary greatly though so you may want to be very selective about which group you join. FWIW.

Are any of the schools just listed Kenjutsu Iaijutsu or Niten ichi Ryu?
