I've just bought my first Iaito, and notice that most of the sites that supply Iai weapons list tanto (knife/dagger) alongside the swords. Does any school of iai actually use this, or wear it during practice? Is it purely for show?

The Yoshida-ha Shidare Yanagi-ryu, a sogo bujutsu, wears a kodachi (tanto, wakizashi) for just about everything they do as far as I know. Definitely with all weapons work, including sword, naginata, yari, etc.
