Thread: Matsubagata shuriken.

    Default Matsubagata shuriken.

What was the purpose of this design vis-a-vis the more ordinary forms of shuriken?

Maybe you'd be better off asking this in the ninjutsu section?

Don't know. I was under the impression that the use of shuriken (even those of more unusual shapes) was not limited solely to ninjutsu.

Incidentally, I also wasn't really interested in the legends currently in vogue by most contemporary Ninja artists; that I could easily find on their dojos' websites.

If this is the wrong forum for this question, I would like to request that the moderators move this thread somewhere more appropriate.

I think I read somewhere that the Iga and the Koga boys were the only ones to use this type.

Don't all the serious ryuha use standard bo-shuriken in one form or another?

Matsuba-gata shuriken were used in the Iga region. see http://www.secrets-of-shuriken.com.au/index5.htm and scroll down to Iga Ryu.

I believe the blade was originally used as a fastener or something similar in woodworking - but am seeking confirmation on that.

    cheers,
    Jason
