As a youth, I really liked bourbons, I then moved on to Irish whiskeys (which I still love).

I never drank much scotch and used to have difficulty with the really smoky single malts but (thanks in part to having a fiance who is really into them), I'm acquiring the taste. Laphroaig and Ardbeg are current favourites. I now feel slightly cheated if I taste one of the sweeter lowland jobbies.

Cheapo bourbons are now way too caramelly for my palate. I need to get hold of some of the better ones and re-acquaint myself.

I love the complexity and variation of whisky/whiskey.

One day I'm going to do a similar tasting guide for cognacs and armagnacs which are still my main area of expertise. Mmmm, yum.

    Cheers,

    Mike

    Hi Mike,

Looking for smoke/peat, ever tried Talisker? It tastes like a peat fire..good if you are soaked to the bone, and need to warm up you "innerds"...
