    Default heavyweight gi under $100

    any suggestions?
I don't want to go with a tokaido or shureido or something expensive like that... We train hard and sweat a lot at our dojo, so I was just looking for 2 more gi (so I always have a clean one!) that are nice and heavy (to soak up all the sweat), and cut really well.
Currently I have a Century heavyweight...its pretty good...but, I'm looking for something a little better though. no century or proforce.. And preferably traditional drawstring...

Anyone own a KD Elite, or Kwon, or KI, or Hayashi etc?

I like the KI Judo Gi very much and have used them for a good ten years. Even though they're single-weave and we put them to pretty hard abuse, I haven't worn one out yet. Of course, I'm biased, as an ebay search for this user name will make clear.

just to be clear also, I am interested in heavyweight (12-14oz maybe) karate gi.

though feel free to comment on judo/aikido gi as well...I use those from time to time as well... (hopefully more soon... so many arts, so little time...)

As a side note (a little more than I want to spend right now) has anyone tried Tozando karate gi? I have a Tozando Aikido gi that is absolutely amazing...

I have had Juka keikogi recommended to me.
I ordered 5 of them last night. I should be getting them early next week.
I'll let you know what I think about them. My friend said that they are
comparable to Tokaido. The ones I bought are 12 oz. brushed cotton.
They are at the $100 mark.

    Here is their website: http://jukadragon.com/uniform/juka.htm

I've seen those before...they look nice...
and Wow! 5 of them? hope you like them!!
I'm definately interested to see what you think of them... I will be in the market for a nice gi sometime...but for now I can't see getting blood and sweat and glove stains all over a really nice gi...
I've heard good things about the KD Elite gi as well...they are 100 bucks too...

You might look at the type I wear.

    http://www.jinenkanseigi.com/jujutsu_gi.htm

Almost two and a half years now, multiple wearings/washing every week, and it's held up remarkably well. We're not indoor trainers, either. This thing has held up to grass, dirt, rocks, snow, heavy rain... you name it, this gi has stood up to it.

    Three are for my students.
I have Tokaido Ultimate. It is 12 oz. brushed cotton.
I have had it for six years and it still looks good.
A friend from another forum told me the Juka keikogi
was comparable for half the price. We'll see...

I'll give you the 411 next week.

I was looking at the Ki Mugen gi last night...they seem promising...
they have a yellow label that is about 14 oz, and a black label that is 12 oz. The black label, though lighter, is slightly more expensive. The company said that it is a much higher quality cotton though. Any one used these gi? They are even more appealing because they have the shorter sleeves and pants that I prefer, and typically have to have tailored...
I think the black label runs around $72-$80 (from retailers..) and the yellow label just below that...

I have several Juka dogi. I like them very much, and think the price:value ratio is very good.

Their company headquarters used to be just down the road from me, so I was able to go to the warehouse and find exactly what I was looking for. They have since moved, but I don't think the products have changed much, if at all.

Let us know what you think of them once your order arrives.

Our dojo uses a myriad of different Gi depending on feel. There're alot of people that like Kamikaze gi. However many of their "models" are more than $100 but I believe they have 1 or 2 at or just below the $100 mark. Also you may want to look into Tokon Gi as well. They're pretty much a very close take on Kamikaze because the head guy used to work for them.

And just in case, Check out Anshin. He makes the most comfortable gi I'd ever worn. It's a softer cotton and thick! He makes them a little oversized and gussets the underarm area so the gi doesn't ride up as much when you raise your arms. The jackets are around $115 but so worth it IMO. The gi have extra thick strings for grappling on the top but I usually replace the string in the pants as the thickness makes it hard to tighten around the waist. He also makes an Uwagi top that's split in the center of the back instead of on the sides for practitioners that wear Hakama.

His website is http://www.worldpath.net/~anshin/ . He's recently had a stream of bad luck in life but he's coming back around to offer up his gi again.

    edit:
I should also warn you that the Anshin pants can generally fit 2 or more of you in them I've doctored mine up a bit to fit more comfortably for me but I probably won't be buying another set of pants from them and will just stick to the tops.

    Default Just as nice!

I received the goods last night and here is what I found.
The Juka Silver is identical to the Tokaido Ulimate in
cut and material. It is soft and thick. The Juka pants and
jacket are cut the same as the Tokaido and both have
5 rows of stiching around the collar.

It seems like you can have the same quality for half the price.
The only difference would be, the Juka does not have the
blue tint that the other high end keikogis have. Big deal...

I have yet to wash it so I will post again after a few weeks of wear.
The people there were very happy to answer any questions and
were very prompt at filling my order. They even advised me not to
do the 2 day shipping since we were both in California, I would get
it in 2 days anyway. I would buy from them again happily.

    I hope this helps!
    Best of luck.

    Default Gi

I use the (UK based) company Blitz Sport. When my club wore traditional white gi(s) I used to recommend the Silver Tournament Gi which cost about £20 trade for a size 6 (I'm 6'2" and a 6 fits perfectly). The best one however which the England Karate team usually wear is called the Diamond and it has a longer jacket and looks very good. They are about £40 trade I think.

We wear the Blitz Judo gi(s) now as they are more resilliant to grappling (obviously)
