Traditional School near Raleigh, NC
My, it has been a long time since my first, lonely post here. Anyway, I have been learning kendo for about a year, but that is only once a week and I am looking for a good karate dojo in the Raleigh / Cary / surrounding area. I live in Angier myself. I am not exactly sure what I am looking for, nor do I find the style very important. Any suggestions or ideas concerning karate schools in the area would be appreciated. Of course, suggestions of judo / jujutsu schools would also be very welcomed. Mainly, I want to learn an effective and traditional Japanese hand-to-hand art that has a dojo close to the area I specified. I see it as a foundation for, many years down the road, Aikido training, since I have heard Aikido is not meant to stand alone.

The answer will probably depend on what you mean by "traditional" and what you actually want out of the training. I teach a small adult shotokan karate class at the Morrisville Aquatics Center that is rather old-fashioned in that the emphasis is on learning how to move rather than learning how to win tournaments or attempting to learn street fighting. Thank you. That is definitely what I am looking for. By "traditional" I mean part of a legitimate and major style of karate, as opposed to eclectic "American" schools. I am also not interest in tournaments, competition, or "street" preparation. I merely want to to learn effective techniques.

Hi Rob
I was trying to think of where Henry was teaching now, but couldn't pull it up. Thanks for the link. BTW - to the original poster, the dojo referred to above is also a good choice for what you are after, and may be more convenient.
