    Default Asayama Ichiden-ryu taijutsu

    Dear E-Budoka,

I've understood that most of the Asayama Ichiden ryū practiced today comes either from Naganuma Tsuneyuki or Sakai Uichirō, both who were students of Ōkura Naoyuki.

I've witnessed two separate enbu of Asayama Ichiden ryū, once at the Meiji Jingū Kobudō Taikai in 2003 and once at the Asakusa Riverside Sport Center Kobudō Taikai last year. I got the feeling that these two were of separate lineages, but could someone more knowledgeable person confirm this. Or even better, name the lineages, if in fact they are different.

Here's links to some photos that I hope will help the recognition:

    Meiji Jingū Kobudō Taikai, 2003:

    One
    Two

Asakusa Riverside Sport Center Kobudō Taikai, 2007:

    One
    Two
    Three
    Four
    Five

    Thank you!

Just selfishly bringing this up a little bit, in case somebody with knowledge missed it on the first time around.

The trousers tend to give Asayama Ichiden Ryu away from a distance...

I would guess that both groups in the photos are the same...I have seen the Meiji enbu several times, and each time the same huge Kama is used in the demo, so despite the look being slightly different between those photo sets I would say that the origin is the same...Perhaps they just forgot the slimmer fitting hakama this time around?

Just checked my programme notes and the two are the same, both from Ozaki(Osaki) Sensei's class in Kanagawa Ken..

Thank you for the information Mr. Sharples. Would you happen to know Ozaki sensei's lineage?
