    Default MBT Shoes

I don't know if this brand can be found in Europe or not but a major manufacturer of shoes in North America is now selling their own version of the MBT shoe. My wife two weeks ago bought her first pair and within the first day she cannot believe how tight her upper legs had gotten. She is trying to use these to avoid having surgery on her feet as she suffers from severe foot pain so we'll see how that goes.

There has been a lot of hype about MBT shoes. They do seem to help if you have forefoot pain on pushing off when walking, as the convex sole reduces pressure on the forefoot joints. The other benefits attributed to them are unproven and likely to remain so.

One of the problem with convex soles is that they makes it more difficult to turn. People wearing them complain of understeer, that is, they drift wide when trying to turn.

Default Top 10 Reasons Why The BMI Is Bogus

    http://www.npr.org/templates/story/s...ryId=106268439

I always found it interesting that for my 6'3 frame, my ideal weight is suppose to be 179 lbs as oppose to my current 210. Thus my BMI is 26.3 which is awfully high and could be used against me by insurance companies.

In my previous position (Air Force) our BMI was measured each year as part of our fitness test. A guy I worked with constantly failed. He was tall, and a body builder with bugger all fat on him (he went on to be “Tower” in the first Australian series of the Gladiators). Despite the obvious amount of muscle mass he was still counselled and sent for specialist body fat tests each year. They always came back as within a healthy range. BMI is only a general indicator and shouldn’t be used a defining tool to judge body fat.

Default Does Ibuprofen Help or Hurt During Exercise?

If “you’re taking ibuprofen before every workout, you lessen this training response,” Warden says. Your bones don’t thicken and your tissues don’t strengthen as they should. They may be less able to withstand the next workout. In essence, the pills athletes take to reduce the chances that they’ll feel sore may increase the odds that they’ll wind up injured — and sore.

Okay, I don't give top marks to the level of journalistic integrity, but the photograph caught my eye. This article describes another new development in sports footwear.

Great concept - makes more sense than any other shoe design I've come across.

The evidence on the benefits Rocker sole shoes, for low back pain is now available.

MacRae CS, et al. Spine, 10/14/2013.

The conclusion - Rocker sole shoes seem to be no more beneficial than flat sole shoes in affecting disability and pain outcomes in people with chronic low back pain. Flat shoes are more beneficial for low back pain aggravated by standing or walking.
