I have a slightly unusual question, though I believe it is appropriate for this group. I have been reading a great deal about police/military tactical simulators as a means of instruction. In several recent articles, Lt. Col. Grossman talks about some of these simulators, as many of them are basically no-frills versions of the same video game hardware that is available to the general market. Obviously, the software is going to be proprietary insofar as it is tailored towards specific threat/ mission profiles. Have any of you had the opportunity to work with these tools? How effective are they in conditioning the desired skills/responses? Did you find that they had major shortcomings? What role, if any, do you feel they have as a means of instruction? I realise that I have crunched a number of questions into one post, but I would be glad to hear any of your experiences or opinions.

The USMC has modified Doom to reflect realistic ammunition use and injuries (you get hit once, you're probably through for the day). You might check with the Marine Corps Gazette to see what they have on this. I think the URL is www.mca.marines.org
