Default Cops Seeing an Increase in AK Use

The problem isn't only about being outgunned, it includes a serious body armor issue as well.

I've had a mak-90 for years. That's a Chinese AK for those who don't know.

The tone of that article was very 'fear mongering', I noted. AK type guns aren't any more or less lethal than any other high powered rifle, like AR-15s and such. Obviously, Kit, you know that. I'm speaking for general reference here.

Anyway, there will unfortunately always be an arms race between thugs and cops. Take care out there, bud.

Yeap, The following was my compatriots. I've been on leave so I wasn't there.
This after the week before some with an AK let loose 23 rounds striking two people.

Certainly a bit of fear mongering, but when you are actually seeing them in the hands of suspects, not a lot of fear needs mongering.

Probably most frequently we see SKSs. Having a large Russian community here, AKs are not unusual, even sold from the trunks of cars. Toss in the occasional hand grenade and up goes the pucker factor.

Our last barricade with shots fired had multiple firearms including several rifles. When he was being taken into custody he commented on one of our guy's M4 rifles, saying what a nice gun it was. Then he said "mine is better" and our man asked him "what you got?" to which the reply was "a 6-8." (Meaning the 6.8 mm for the M4/M16 platform). And yup, he had one.

It certainly gives one cause for pause.....and now that we are seeing more trained shooters, and more committed resistance, it does make you re-think how you do things. The traditional SWAT "conga line" in open areas is history for our team.
