Hi,
What does a young Army Soldier have to do to get into the Army combatives school and trained from level 1 to level 4?

I have no idea the answer to your question, but I just wanted to say 'Hi Jody!'. Be careful over there in the sandbox.

Jody,
Contact your training NCO and they should have information. If not, here are some good links:
https://www.infantry.army.mil/combat...roll/index.htm
http://www.moderncombatives.org/home.html
https://www.infantry.army.mil/combatives/
You can also forward information found on the first link to your training NCO. Maybe your unit could sponsor an MTT as well..............
You should be able to get something going either through your unit or an adjacent unit that has trained personnel.
Good luck!
Jody, I don't know much about army combatives school but it seems like hoshizawa has provided you with good info to start with. I can certainly detect a Samurai Spirit within you my brother. Good luck on whatever training you persue and be carefull over there.
"Forge the mind and the body will follow".
Level I and II are now done at unit level or through unit level MTTs. Let you NCOs know you are interested and that if the opportunity comes up that you'd like to be considered.
Outside of that, keep seeking training on your own time. We have lots of MACP guys out there in the units, ask around, there are probably some that are in your AO. Get with these guys and get them to teach you the drills. You don't have to wait to go to the formal 1 week Level I course to begin your training.
Short of that, download the Level I training video on Fort Benning's website. Buy the DVDs in Clothing Sales and get with some buds and start figuring it out on your own.
Your NCOs will see you become a fanatic and it may encourage and motivate them to work on getting MTTs or a Level III/IV guy to teach the course.
Good luck!

Dear Soulend,
I always see the Marines around here training.
Leavit,
I already have the video and the basics, I'm looking into getting more of the meat. I am a frim believer in the foundation that Army combatives creates.
Mr. Owens,
I can still roll with these young guys.

Yes Army Combatives does create a good foundation, and you learn some good basics in the one week Level I instructor's course. That in and of itself is not enough to give any real ability or skills. It does teach you the basic three drills and several techniques and trains you how to instruct others in these basics of the program.
I too pride myself at being able to roll with the young guys still!
Good luck and keep training no matter what!

MACP is listed in ATRRS at a number of installations. Your Training NCO can pull an A1 screen and input you for one of the courses; I am pretty sure you should not have any problems with course quotas. You can look at the course catalogue on ATRRS yourself without an ATRRS logon/password. https://atrrs.army.mil/atrrscc/ Type the word "combatives" in the COURSE TITLE block then click the "search ATRRS course catalogue" button. Don't forget to check FY-09 too.

Hi Kevin,
Jodi has got a more than a little background. He and I have played around plenty. With his background, I'm afraid all he'll get it from it is a common vocabulary so he can talk to the guys.
What have you been up to since Regensburg?

Hey Peter! Actually, that is alot of what you get out of that course, the common vocabulary, teaching methodology, and the drills. It is all basic stuff that we are teaching, but it is important in the Army that we are doing it from the same basic standard so as soldiers move around the Army, they have a common framework. You garner no really skills or ability during this class.
Many of the students have no background in martial arts and the course is designed to kick start them in to the program.
Since Regensburg? well, just been training a whole bunch in BJJ, Aikido (finally got my Shodan), and just started Judo. Also organized and ran a couple of combatives courses for the Army as well. Actually I just got back from Regensburg this weekend. I love that city!
Chuck once again lives an Hour away from me just like he did in Germany, and we will probably never see each just like we did when we were both in Germany! Would love to get together again like we did last fall.
Take it easy!

This is me, hating you, right now.
Well, one of my old students does jodo in Rockville and Em and I have friends there in DC. If you have a venue, we can gin up a mini-sem like we did in Graf. Might even coerce Peter into coming back ...Chuck once again lives an Hour away from me just like he did in Germany, and we will probably never see each just like we did when we were both in Germany!
We did get him in town a couple weekends ago, sort of a flying trip, but we had big fun!
Hi Kevin,
Sounds like a good start then.
You're doing judo now? That's great. We'll have to play the next time we end up in the same city. I had a really nice practice this evening. One of our guys is doing some mma fights, and we're adapting his judo skills to that. He's a lot of fun to play with.
As for Chuck, just tell him to get in the car and drive the hour down to where you are. He's not teaching right now, so his weekends are his own. I do know that offers of good beer and scotch are useful lures where he's involved.

Chuck,
Since you clearly haven't figured out how this works, here's what you do. You look at your calendar and find a free day. Then you send a note to Kevin saying "Hey Kevin, lets get together on x. What do you say?"
