    Unhappy

    Esteemed Joe San,

I have heard many times the story of Koichi Tohei's separation from the Aikikai(usually the Aikikai view) and of his open letter to the Aikido community, explaining his reasons for that. Also, I seem to remember there was an answer from Tadashi Abbe Sensei.
Where can I find the complete texts of those letters?
    Best regards
    Yamantaka (aka Ubaldo)

Although I thought I'd learned the names of most "Disciples of the Creator" (a phrase I got from the Internet, in reference to T. Abe) while in Sunday School, I must confess to never previously having heard of the man. However, if Stan Pranin can't help you, then you might make inquiry at the Budokwai in London and with Henri Plee in Paris, as their recordkeeping is usually pretty good.

Georges Stobbaerts -- http://www.tenchi-international.com/...baerts-uk.html -- mentions the Tohei letter, so should have a copy.

By the way, is it true that Stobbaerts' aikido has been eradicated from Portugal? That's what his website says.

    YAMANTAKA : Who?

YAMANTAKA : Thank you, Joe San! I'll do that!

YAMANTAKA : I'll contact his group in Brazil.

YAMANTAKA : I don't think so...Where in his website you read that? I couldn't find it.

    Best regards

    1983 a 1993
During this period of time, Georges Stobbaerts, already eradicated in Portugal, continued to promote Aikido, directing and teaching at several national and international seminars in Portugal...

Aikido was introduced into Europe in 1952 by Professor Tadashi Abbe, a known disciple of the Creator. http://www.xs4all.nl/~creatrix/Aikido.html

YAMANTAKA : My God...Not "erradicated" but RADICATED (living in). If he was erradicated, he couldn't be promoting Aikido, directing and teaching in Portugal, would he?

YAMANTAKA : My problem is that I find almost impossible to get copies from those two letters (the one from Tohei Sensei and the answer from Abe Sensei). Any new ideas ?

You could always try writing Mr. Tohei.

Or you could ask him yourself. After all, he is supposed to be attending a seminar in Maui sometime this spring. Just tell the Mrs. that you need to go to Hawaii to answer some really important martial arts questions, and that you'll bring her some macademia nuts and pineapple when you come back. I'm sure she'll understand completely.
