    Default Yo/ryu

    I have a friend of mine that does a form of Yoshin Ryu Jujutsu, atleast thats part of the name, the way they pronounce it, atleast. Anyway, one of my Sensei, who is a native Japanese seen his certificate, and said when he see's the kanji for the style my friend does, he reads it as ryu shin ryu, meaning willow heart style, not Yo Shin Ryu. I also looked in my Kanji dictionary, & it says Ryu, among other ways to pronounce this kanji used; However, there is no romanji for Yo. So my question is, why do they pronounce it Yoshin, when it is Ryu Shin? Is it the On pronounciation of the same kanji, or something?

    Assuming the kanji is 楊(よう)and not 柳(りゅう、やなぎ)then yoo (or you or yõ) would be the reading I would pick. Ryu and yanagi are usually a different character 柳, but I think because both are kinds of willow there can be some literary license.

    Default Ryu shin kaichu ryu (柳心介冑流柔術)

    It would be Ryu shin kaichu ryu(柳心介冑流柔術).

    DVD is put on the market as follows;

    Both 柳 and 楊 is withy.
    However, 柳 means Salix babylonica, and 楊 means Salix gracilistyla, the plant cyclopedia says.

    Not to be paranoid, but I suspect a made-up group that just looked up the kanji for "willow" and stuck it in there. There are a number of "Yoshin-ryu" imitators.
