    Default Heroes

We all have heroes. Some are family members, entertainers, sports figures, world/community/political leaders, etc.

If I asked you to list your top 3 heroes, would Kaiso make that list? If not, why? Does anyone on your list bare any form of philosophical resemblance to Kaiso?

    My heroes would be:

Charles Darwin - for his dedication to science principles despite vilification
My Grandfather - the most intelligent and toughest person I know
Mahatma Gandhi - peaceful resistance in the face of violence

I would not put Kaiso on that list because i don't feel I really understand him as well as I would like and I'm unsure of how much of his life has been glossed over. I also feel that the difficulty in gaining English translations of his speeches means the Kaiso seems a remote figure to me. My understanding of buddhist philosophy comes from other sources.

I consider heroes to be people who perform deeds for the public good over an extended period of time, despite personal material loss.

Three such people that come to mind are:

    Gandhi
    Mother Theresa
Professor Fred Hollows - If you haven't heard of him - From wikipaedia -Frederick "Fred" Cossom Hollows, AC (9 April 1929 – 10 February 1993) was an ophthalmologist who became known for his work in restoring eyesight for countless thousands of people in Australia and many other countries. It has been estimated that more than one million people in the world can see today because of initiatives instigated by Hollows, the most notable example being The Fred Hollows Foundation.

I feel this perspective is widespread

With that said my list for now is

    1. Nelson Mandela
    2. Jimmy Carter
    3. Malcolm X

I believe the only traits they share with my understanding of Kaiso is their ability to see the world as is and most important to me, how they transform their world views at very critical moments in their lives.

    My 3 heroes for today:

Barack Obama - for his integrity and his ability to motivate people and to mediate.
Bob Geldhoff- for his involvement in Band Aid.
Father Jacques-Desire Laval - a French Catholic missionary who arrived in Mauritius in 1841 and fought a long campaign to better the plight of the poor and sick. His shrine is still visited/revered by members of all faiths on the island. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jacques...ir%C3%A9_Laval

The great thing i have found about this thread is that it has made me think of my values and what charactreristics I admire in people.

In answer to one of Jan's earlier questions, i do not think a hero is necessarily someone you want to emulate but more someone who's actions or characteristics have a 'wow' factor and who uses their talent or position for the good of humanity.

    Smile Heroes

I think that you have to be somekind of a hero to your self.
As a kenshi you have to improve your life.
And sometimes you have to do things a little better, to show example.

    Don't speak false.
    Dont do wrong.
And those things. Arent sometimes easy to do.

Sometimes you have to keep yourself controlled and that takes some courage.
For example you don't like doing some thing that you have to do, and you have option not to do it.
As a kenshi you should, just do it and overcome your dislike.

My english isn't so good, hope you understad what i mean.

    For your guestion:
    1. Mom
    2. My Wifes father
    3. ?
