    Thumbs up Naginata video (Dutch)

There was an episode of klokhuis (a children's show!) in May all about Naginata, it can be viewed here: http://cgi.omroep.nl/cgi-bin/streams...b.20050506.asf
15 minutes, including some pretty good descriptions!

It's a bloody shame that the future of this program has become uncertain.

    Thanks for the link!

Looks like a lot of gendai there. The background is good, but they were going at it from a gendai end.

Default Youtube videos (naginata & spear)

I noticed an exhibition of naginata vs. sword posted on youtube. The intro to the video says ther person is a menkyo kaiden

Not being an expert in naginata, I was wondering what people specially trained in the weapon thought:

Are the principles and properties of a naginata being used properly?

It's a Bujinkan demo - the man doesn't say what he recieved his 'menkyo kaiden' in specifically.

    Regardless, it isn't koryu naginatajutsu.

You'd probably be better off asking in the Ninpo forum.

Short answer No - not as far as I know.

    Examples of Koryu Naginata:

It's two guys with sticks. I prefer to follow the miltary ymaxim of don't ask, don't tell when it comes to ninjas.

I am very good with a naginata or yari, but that guy is worse.
I am not sure what they are doing, but it doesn't come close to anything I have practiced or ever seen, before this.

Also, I am not throwing stones at anyone, just my observation.

Looks to be light shiai, using the kihon from certain kata, but I can't be sure. But some of those kamae are just downright wacky.

There are a few techniques that the Japanese would term as arienai (Unlikely/unrealistic) in there.

I think I remember that video being posted in another forum-- either the ninpo or the baffling section-- not too long ago. If I recall correctly, the Bujinkan folks thought that this guy looked pretty unorthodox by their own standards. I got the impression from what they were saying that he wasn't following the naginata techniques set forth in their syllabus, but was basically coming up with his own as he went along. I can't find that original thread at the moment, however, so take my recollection with a grain of salt.

My opinion is, in all likelihood, worth exactly what you are paying for it.

Default Embu: Takada-ha Hozoin ryu (high quality clip)

    I wish all embu-clips had this film-quality.

    Default Documentary: Owari kan ryu

I'm fairly sure its a repost, but just in case it hasn't:

Its a Japanese documentary of about 7 minutes featuring Owari Kan ryu.

My favorite part was the sparring.
