    Default Kanji for Kake

    Hi

I am doing a series on my blog. I am doing the calligraphy in seal style for some budo terms.

    http://tomikiaikido.blogspot.com/200...in-tensho.html

I cannot find the correct kanji for kake (Judo term for execution of throw)

    Anyone got it handy?

    Perfect. Tiny, but perfect!

Looking it up, that is quite a complicated kanji with lots of differing meanings.

George I see you train close to where my teacher is in Lewisville. I will try to look you up next time I pop up from Austin.

Big thanks, I hope you enjoy the blog entry.

Looks like you are using the simplified Chinese character. The traditional version has the divination radical (卜).

It is the seal script version, or the ancient version. In Japanese the style is called Tensho. Seal script is an ancient style of Chinese calligraphy. It evolved during the Zhōu dynasty.

I took my version from an ancient kanji dictionary. I can't say for certain but I have some guesses to account for variation

    1. The old style was before there was standardization. As made famous in the Jet Li movie Hero, 20 different symbols meaning sword!

    2. Often calligraphers and hanko carvers use modern radical combinations to reconstruct old letters.

By the way George, where did you get that groovy little hanko image? Please tell me there is an online source!
