Default Some Australian koryu bujutsu information: update

    Happy Australia Day!

I've had a website up at www.geocities.com/koryu-bujutsu/ for several years now introducing koryu bujutsu/kobudo in Australia, which dissappeared off the Internet at the end of last year due to the ISP pulling the plug on the free websites it hosted. The site is now back online. So far I've reinstalled the Australian koryu group guide and plan to post both revised and new articles and interviews to the site as well. Come and stop by at:http://koryuaustralia.wordpress.com.

The site could also use some help:

    1. There are some groups who are still unlisted or whose details have changed. If you're aware of any koryu groups practicing in Australia who are not listed, please let me know by email.

    2. I'd like to make the site accessible to all Australians interested in the koryu. If you have the time, please register the site on search engine sites such as Yahoo and Google.

    3. I've lost some of the original material on the site that is unfortunately not available on Internet archives such as the Wayback Machine. If you have any material from the site archived, I'd greatly appreciate you sending it to me by email.

Hopefully the site can go on to contribute to the koryu community in Australia.

    With thanks,
    Daniel Lee

Happy Australia day to you too!

I was lamenting the disappearance of your site, and have been using the archived version! Thanks for putting it back up!

Hi Daniel, I know your site is "Koryu" but does it follow Meik Skoss' classification of Toyama Ryu?

If so, there are few dojos to update.

I know there are Tamiya Ryu folks down at Wollongong as well.

Good to see you back up!

    Samuel,

Glad it's of some use to you.

    Dean,

Good to hear from you. I'm done with the pastries for now and on to miso - should find out how I've done in a couple of months. I've got several themes I'm keen on putting out there via this new site, but it may take a bit of time.

    Mat,

My personal take on koryu arts is that they can be categorized along spectrums, rather than hard and fast single definitions. Toyama-ryu and arts such as Hontai Yoshin-ryu are more modern adaptations of classical arts/training, and also have verifiable lineages (or teacher/student relationships). I'd appreciate the chance to add your information on Toyama-ryu and Tamiya-ryu.

    With thanks,
    Daniel Lee

No worries - I'll organise some info for you

Interestingly, there is a related thread on Kendo World.

Your original site Daniel has been invaluable for promoting koryu in Australia. Good to see an updated version back online.

Th only ones you missed AFAICS were Greg Clarke's HNIR group. http://www.kobudokai.org/

Thanks Ben. This sounds like a good excuse to get in contact with Greg again.

Default Shinto Muso Ryu + Hyoho Niten Ichi Ryu

    Daniel,

I said I would get back to you, but not realising how quickly you were going to move on this.

Greg, looks after the www.jojutsu.com site which lists all the jo dojo connected with Nishioka Sensei's line and the IJF so it is all up to date. As you have seen from above, he has also been allowed to teach HNIR. He had asked me to pass on a request for that information to be added also.

Greg is based in Brisbane and teachs the SMR publicly and the HNIR less publicly. The http://www.kobudokai.org/ site has email contact details for Greg with reagrds to HNIR.

Again, sorry for the late response.

    Here we go:

The home dojo for IBF Toyama Ryu and Nakamura Ryu in Australia is in Townsville, Qld:

There is a Study group in Cairns, contactable via the Townsville dojo.

I have just formed a new Study group in Sydney. At present it's just me but there is plenty of room for more!

I train here on Wedsnesday evenings from 7.30pm at present:
