    Default NEW tatami

As some of you know, Icho Ryu classes are conducted at Seattle School of Aikido and there has been some remodeling done of late. A new heater, new better window shades, some planned ventilation improvement and best of all(at least to me) is new tatami!

We had been on a canvas - rubber particle surface, but I've never been fond of that surface. I'm grateful we had a place to train, but tatami are so much nicer. Even if the Zebra mats don't have the grassy smell of the old traditional rush grass tatami from the early days in my training.

    Here's some pictures:

We still have some work to do, new subfloor is needed before too long, some other things need to be done, but for the moment I'm pretty darn happy.

Are those cartwheels of joy in the photos?

Nope, that was going into a handstand and then falling into ukemi. Had to test out the subfloor and tatami properly.

I spilled some beer on the tatami to bless them shortly after this.

Very nice Neil! I've always liked the Zebra tatami mats.

If you can't ukemi without spilling your beer, you still have much work to do grasshopper!
