I think the most impressive waza I've seen come from the Daito Ryu Kodokai.

    Default Question.

    Hi Chris,
What was the technique, the situation and what was it that impressed you about it?

    Cheers

For me the technique is irrelevant. It's the way any technique is done. The systematic way they have turned the kinetic energy of an opponents attack not only back at them but drive it into them. I haven't seen anyone outside of the Kodokai than can do that, that well. Deflect yes, hit it back at them like a line drive hit straight back at a pitcher, no. Good stuff.

Default Most impressive thing I have seen in the martial arts

Seeing a person who cant walk and chew gum at the same time, with no confidence or self esteem and in poor physical condition train hard realize their dream and become a fine martial artist a positive example and benefit to the dojo and the community.

    Hi Chris, Hi Phil,

I can totally relate to what you are saying Chris.

Phil, I totally agree, that is impressive both in regard to what a martial art can achieve as a vehicle for personal development, and that instructor who managed to get that student through without crushing his spirit totally.

I purposely left my opening question open and vague so as not to limit the focus on technique.

    Thanks for that.

    Cheers

The most impressive thing I have seen is the number of friends I have made. I was never popular in high school but I have a lot of VERY good friends now thanks to the budo I do. what more can someone ask for? (ok a few million dollars would be nice...).
