    Default Is this legit?

I'm not a martial arts practitioner on any level. But I've always been the guy who had respect for those who were accomplished students in the arts. Anyways...

I was at a yard sale the other day and came across a book titled "Aikido and The Dynamic Sphere". I picked it up for a couple of buck and took it home. I've been reading through it and highlighting key phrases. It seems like a very viable self defense system. Although, a little technical. So I thought I would get on here and try to get an answer to a couple of questions.

    1. Is this a real martial art that can be practically applied to real world self defense situations?

    2. At the age of 31 would I be too old to start learning this?

Any input, whether positive or negative, is greatly appreciated. And thank you so much in advance.

Thank you very much for the response.

PS.... I checked out your link for the Indy location. Are you still actively involved with them? That's only a 45 minute drive or so. If it's a good place for a beginner I might drive up and check it out.

The Dentokan groups are great and The system its self is very straight forward and easy to learn, it would be a great place for a beginner to start.

    Default Louisville

    Ryan,

There are at least three aikido groups in Louisville:

    Aikido of Louisville - ASU
    Louisville Aikikai - ASU
    Kentuckiana Aikikai - USAF

All will treat you well. There is at least one koryu jujutsu dojo in town teaching Hontai Yoshin ryu. There are a number of options that would not require driving to Indianapolis.

Let me know if you need more information.

Yes, IMHO Aikido is a legit martial art depending on how you train.

No, you are not too old. I started at 44 (16 years ago).
