Northwest CQC is simply the name for our personal protection and combatives study group. We practice out of The School of Budo in Portland Oregon (
www.schoolofbudo.com).
Our practice is specifically targeted to practical application: street clothes, a lot of verbal interaction/de-escalation and use of force decision making, and modern "everyday carry" weapons. There is a great deal of assumption and misinformation in the martial arts community about how practice applies to self defense. This is a class that directly addresses those things.
The experience level in our group is quite deep in terms of aikido, Judo, BJJ and koryu, and elements of all of these things are present in the coursework. We have hosted some high level practitioners and teachers from several of these traditions and the feedback has been very positive.
Coursework is now open for our non-handgun classes. This will emphasize contact management (verbals and proxemics), practical unarmed defense, use of the knife in self defense (including articulation of use of lethal force), and the like.
