    Bruce Tegner, the first Milli Vanilli of Martial Arts!
    I heard somewhere that he begged for a shodan promotion (I don't know which art, possibly judo), so his Japanese teacher gave him one stating (in Japanese) that it was begged for, not awarded. Apparently the guy had it published on the back cover of one of his books. Maybe someone on this forum has a copy.
