Kitō-ryū (起倒流), founded in the 17th century by Fukuno and Terada, is a member of the Nihon Kobudo Kyokai and is catalogued as Jujutsu, hence the name Kito-ryu Jujutsu.

I believe the current representative is still Inoue Shoji, headquarters are in Kyoto (Nishinosagicho-cho, Yamashina-ku, Kyoto-shi, Kyoto-fu)

Kito-ryu has atemi-waza (striking techniques), nage-waza (throwing techniques), kansetsu-waza (joint locking techniques) and shime-waza (choking techniques). Some techniques are to be performed while in full armor.

As we all know, Jigoro Kano trained in Kito-ryu (under Iikubo Tsunetoshi) and therefore some of the principles of modern judo come from this style (e.g. Koshiki-no-kata is based on Kito-ryu).

The Kito ryu is essentially dead. Inoue sensei is the last known practitioner, and he only claims to know a single kata, the parallel to Kodokan Judo's Koshi no Kata.

I've seen him perform it several times. He has at least one younger judo deshi, but as Inoue sensei doesn't claim menkyo in the art, it remains to be seen what that gent will claim, if anything, other than an understanding of the original kata. The Kodokan changed it substantially over decades. (although the changes would be hard to note unless you watched them side by side).

The Kito-Ryo is an old art with a demonstrated focus on Nage-waza: throwing technique, Katame-waze : grappling techniques, Atemi-waza: full body-striking techniques. The Moderm Kito-Ryu jiu-jitsu fighter tries to stand up in the clinch and grapple.
