Default Greetings from St. Louis Mo....Kenjutsu in St Louis?

    Hello,

I am a new member but have been "lurking" around the site from time to time and decided to join.

My background is in Muay Thai for 8-10 years and some basic Aikido for 1 year.
In the past I was fortunate enough to travel to Thailand a couple times for boxing camp training and a few exhibition fights for the tourists to witness. Now I am "retired" from Muay Thai due to the toll it takes on my body. I have been looking for a more traditional form of Japanese training to blend more of the mental-weapon with the physical. I did enjoy taking Aikido for a year but did not continue that due to work schedule getting in the way.

I am currently looking for a Kenjutsu style of teaching in the St Louis area. I have not been able to find anything so far doing a web based search. Any ideas from you guys int he St Louis area?

Unlikely to be any koryu in St. Louis. There is a kendo club there, the website is here. You might enjoy kendo, alternately you could contact them and ask if they know of any koryu in the area, they are more likely to know than anyone.

You might try sending a message to Dave Lowry via St. Louis Magazine; he writes restaurant reviews for them, and is a long-time koryu budo practitioner. If there's anything in the area he should know about it.

Or possibly venture out to the Japanese Festival at the Missouri Botanical Garden on Labor Day weekend ( http://www.missouribotanicalgarden.o...-festival.aspx ), where there will be six or so koryu (not all local) presenting, as well as kendo and other gendai arts.
