    Default Tenshin Shintai Ryu?

    Hi All
I recently came across this ryu (or a branch of them) up in Boston MA. I would have to start by confessing my ignorance regarding this specific ryu and inability to find any mention of them on online sources apart from one website. I do realise that many koryu ryus and -ha-s dont like to publicize their presence online.
Hence I am reaching out with the hope that someone here can tell me more about this ryu.

    Thank you..

    Tom Webb

Thank you. I have already read the page. however I wondered if there were other "independent" pages dedicated to this ryu or with information about this ryu. I havent found any dojos in Japan or any other countries/cities for that matter. Hence the query.

Oh - oops, sorry. Didn't realize you were referring to having found their website.
Have you tried contacting this particular group to see whether they could provide the info you're seeking? They may have links, addresses, etc. they'd share with you.

I wouldn't consider any links or addresses provided by them to be "independent" verification.

Perhaps not, but maybe someone there has first-hand information they might share.

    I think the inclusion of

*Note: Because Mr. Nakayama declined invitations to join the Nippon Kobudo Kyokai and the Nippon Kobudo Shinkokai (and did not participate in surveys for the Bugei Ryuha Jiten or the updated Daijiten), Tenshin Shintai Ryu's claim of being koryu (old flow, arts founded and practiced before the Meiji Restoration of 1868) has not been verified.
Probably indicates that the chances of finding any verification of the style in Japan is slim.. what that means i suppose depends on your own assessment of the likelihood of that occurring. Many would be familiar with several koryu that have not ever joined either NKK or NKS, but AFAIK those would all certainly be found in the BRD.. a complete lack of any independent information on a style seems unlikely to me

There is an entry in Dr. Hall's encyclopedia on this ryu. With cites.

I'm afraid I can't find it Mr Judge - the closest I can see is 'Tenshin Shirai Ryu' - there are a few entries for 'Shintai', but none relate to a ryuha; am I missing it somewhere?

I've had some correspondence with whom I believe is the senior teacher. Quite a few years ago. He sent me a long essay/short book length exposition on the history and nature of the ryu. The history is vague and cannot be substantiated. The school itself might be very good - I've never seen it. But there's no history/lineage to find. I don't even mean that it's made-up or new. Just that the instructor himself cannot trace things back and the information he has (and lacks) do not offer any avenues to accomplish this. I don't really remember much beyond this.

Ha! Nope, that's me confusing the letters of the alphabet.
