Default Shōrinji Kenpō is back at Southampton University

    Gassho,

After brief forced hiatus Shōrinji Kenpō is back at Southampton University under the auspices of Sensei Adrian Foster-Starr, the longest serving instructor and Branch Master at the club formerly known as Southampton University Shorinji Kempo.

The reborn club will be starting the 8th of November 2015 in the Activities Room, SUSU building 10am-12pm and will include a sake ceremony, with a visit to the Crown Inn Pub afterwards. Please join us on the celebration if you are about.

We are looking forward to meeting new students and introduce them to our other hundred fellow kenshi currently training in the New Forest, Southampton Gregg School and Winchester dojos.

Training will be once a week at this time and venue until further notice.

All are welcome and all WSKO & UKSKF belt grades will be honoured and recognised.

    Kesshu

    Reading between the lines:
BSKF belt grades will not(?) be honoured and recognised.

WSKO & UKSKF belt grades will be honoured and recognised -> Trying to get WSKO&UKSKF kenshi to join?

Or maybe it is just my bad English...

    What about the BSKF

Why can't they share in the misery?

    Gassho All,

I can assure you that this is not a BSKF dojo or connected with us in any way - after the events in 2010, AFS would not be accepted as an instructor in our organisation unless a pretty amazing redemption had occurred.

It looks as though they are seeking a more welcoming response from WSKO/UKSKA.

    Regards,

    Mike

For the record, BSKF and IKA training is open to all those who wish to train in the spirit which So Doshin intended...

    Hello Kari,

The IKA is the "International Kempo Association", established by groups in seven countries who practice Shorinji kempo, related, or similar martial arts. It has been established as an association of equals, focussed on engendering genuine cooperation, rather than as a central command structure. To date we've had international seminars in Sicily and Japan, with next year's main event being in the Czech Republic.

The main idea is to allow kenshi to train in every member country (currently Czech Republic, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Spain, Switzerland and the UK) and learn from as many great instructors as possible. My fondest memories of training has been the travel and meeting kenshi from all over the world, and I'm really happy that this is available to me and my students once again.

As I've inferred in my previous post, the IKA is making every attempt to be an inclusive movement, and you, your kenshi or indeed any other people reading this post are welcome to come along to any of our dojos or events and train as we all used to. We're working on our website at the moment, and when it's up and running I'll be sure to put a post here to let you know.
