Default Recommend me fictional Martial Arts books

I just finished reading an amazing book called The Last Umbra by M.R Chavez. He has a unique take on the Japanese culture by bringing a samurai warrior to early California. The book is full of action that kept me entertained from beginning to end.

A Historical Adventure, Action-thriller. It is focused on my admiration for the Japanese warrior class. This book tells of not a pride filled Samurai, but instead, a ninja assassin on a quest in gold-rush era California.

If anyone want to check it out you can find it here.

I'm always looking for something fun to read so please recommend any books here as well.

If you like fantasies written about aikido, there are always the books by John Stevens.

The Matador series by Steve Perry is a lot of fun, starting with "The Man Who Never Missed".

The Darwath Trilogy by Barbra Hambly is a good fantasy series with some martial arts content. First one is "The Time of the Dark".

Glad I swallowed my milk before reading this or it would have been all over my keyboard.

If you like action books, the John Rain series by Barry Eisler are pretty good.

If you are a science fiction fan, I really enjoyed the Faded Sun trilogy by C. J. Cherryh

And I'll second Cimarronin, I'm enjoying it a lot (thanks Ellis!)

Brian I agree those are pretty decent books. They come across as more smartly done than most. And, there are some good judo bits thrown in there with the other action.

I too liked the Judo bits and generally the story and atmosphere. Rain coulda been better than Mitch Rapp (which has some Jits Bits (the protagonist supposedly studied BJJ), but the stuff on Rain's reaction to flashbangs - and IIRC Taser - are totally ridiculous. Neither less lethal tool works that way and a man with Rain's experience would be even less affected by them - once I read that kinda lost interest in Rain.

Kensho series by Dennis Schimdt. Very nice series that involves using sword and satori to fight off aliens. Great read.

    Way-Farer, Ace Books, 1978[3]
    Kensho, Ace Books, 1979[4]
    Satori, Ace Books, 1981[5]
Wanderer, Ace Science Fiction Books, 1985[6]

William John Watkins - scifi writer - great book of HAND to HAND combat only between humans and then aliens. The gradient is a force like operating system that rules the universe in this novel.

    The Last Deathship off Antares

W.D. Norwood, Jr. 1973 Great book that combines a non-fiction martial arts oversight with a fictional story about a judoka who goes off the 'reservation' to live on the beach applying the principles of Judo. VERY good. I'll reread it very few years - yeah thanks, now I'll have to do that.

    The Judoka

Steven Gould, 1999 Any Aikido practitioner that has ever read a skosh of Sci-fi will LOVE this book. Loaned it around in the dojo and as all books that are loaned do, it disappeared. Based on big time Aikido philosophy (the touchy feely side) it is a good read.
