There's a licensing system A, B, C.
Newly enhanced. A couple of years ago I took the new C class instructor training program. Now 2 days lecture and clinic, in class short and long take home essay exams vs an afternoon lecture before. The B is still just a lecture but is to be updated.
The goal is to have every instructor in Japan licensed and 4 dan or above.
I'm pretty sure I'm the only non-Japanese licensed instructor in Japan under the new system.
There was some phys ed theory, a hands on clinic, but a very thorough lecture on injuries that focused on head trauma. Lots of graphic handouts and video of subdural hemotomae etc. very professionally presented by an MD.
The All Japan Judo Federation / Tokyo Judo Federation were surprised by the turnout. My class was packed with eager young folks, men and women.
