Default New Blog Posts on Kogen Budo

    Recently uploaded two blog posts:
The first, cowritten with Lance Gatling, is on Takenouchi Santo-ryu. This Kyushu tradition, founded and maintained multi generation by the Yano family, would probably have evolved into something like judo if the Kodokan hadn't beaten them to it. (They were very significant in the early days of the Kodokan, and some of the great judoka, such as Samura and Kimura came this school).
The second is a guest blog by Gustavo Goulart, on the intertwined history of Kodokan judo and Brazilian jiujitsu - with one of the main Japanese influences, Yano Takeo, a member of the aforementioned family. There is some wonderful scholarship going on in Brazil right now about the early Meiji influences on the development of Brazilian combative sports, and Gustavo is an exemplar. http://kogenbudo.org/blog/

Ellis is too generous - I just translated a few things and only contributed a portion.

But I think a very good and informative article in spite of my bits.

Maybe "Basically Japanese Jujitsu" is appropriate...
