Hi there, sorry flippant comment on my part.
I had emailed the Kodokan and was advised that lots of the activities were for 4th dan and higher, This was however based around a conversation regarding stays of around a week - they suggested that at the very least I'd need to stay for a year and complete the basics courses with regular training, this partly because I train with BJA rather than Kodokan here in the UK.
apologies, wasn't intending to mislead and perhaps I have gotten the wrong end of the stick when I emailed them but the answer to my email was generally complete the basics or attend the kodokan courses that allow for Kyu grades.
