Hi;
I've been clamoring for some koryu in my life, to have a study beside my aikido. I dip my toes into all kinds of other arts, like karate and boxing and judo, and hopefully some escrima soon. But I've decided to use them only as vehicles to enlighten my aikido (as opposed to adding to, or completing). So in that sense I can't and won't claim to study them.
I would, however, like to have something to study and give energy to, beside aikido, and the beauty and depth of the little koryu I've seen has enthralled me. Additionally, I would hope for the koryu to be so different from aikido, as to not conflate the two in my mind.
However, Sweden seems to be light on koryu. If I could wish for anything, I'd wish for naginata, but there's close to none in Sweden, and then only competitive Naginata-do, as far as I can see.
I also don't want to join some random koryu school, just to leave it as soon as I find something better. That would feel disrespectful. I have, however, found a group training in Jinenkan Jissen Kobudo in Sweden. So I guess my question is whether the Jinenkan is a valid way of getting a taste of koryu? Is the koryu practiced about as authentic as you would get without blood vows, is the training good?
Also, and as a by-the-by: what other koryu is practiced in Sweden today, and where?
Thanks!
