Default Question on Aiki Jujutsu or Sosuishi ryu?

    Good Morning All,

I am new to the forum. I'd like to inquire about Aiki Jujutsu or Sosuishi Ryu. I have my background in Judo and I'd like to know more about Aiki jujutsu or Sosuishi Ryu, they both have a dojo near my house and I'd like to know what are the difference? What are the major focuses between both styles and which style would be good for a person like myself transitioning from Judo into a traditional martial art like these 2? I tried googling, and mostly get history of the styles and who founded them. Not a lot of information in regards to the mechanics of each style except a couple of kata videos on youtube. Which to me is not that helpful.

    Thank You

Hello, I think you are in the right section, but I think you might need to wait a little longer for a response. In any case, you are going to have to go and see for yourself. Aiki jujutsu is a very general name, like aikido (which is the art I practice). I know the art of aikido, the name of the founder and the history, but there are many different types and this partly depends on the political aspects of the art's development. I also know that Ueshiba was a student of Sokaku Takeda, who founded Daito-ryu Aiki-jujutsu. However, the only expert I know is Kondo Katsuyuki. Perhaps someone else can enlighten you further.

    Hi Manuel,
There is an Aikijujutsu sub-forum in this Koryu forum section. That would be an appropriate place to ask specifically about Daito Ryu and other schools of aikijujutsu.

Sosuishi-ryu with the hombu dojo (Sekiryukan) is intimately associated with Judo. As I recall it is also a Judo dojo.

    There are other branches.

Yeah I am in New York. I'm not sure if the NY Seibukan Sosuishi-Ryu dojo also has Judo incorporated into the curriculum as well. I might just have to call the dojo and ask them.
