Hishigi-jutsu seminar in NYC!
Learn practical applications of classical kobuki, with the hishigi ("crushing" stick). You'll be amazed at how many ways a short stick -- or similar-sized mag light or other common item -- can be used for self-defense.

This five-hour seminar will be taught by Salahuddin Muhammad (AKA Edward Castillo), head of Hontai Hakkei Ryu Aikibujutsu and executive protection and former fugitive recovery professional with decades of experience applying the principles of classical weapons to contemporary real-world situations.

You will learn the very practical and powerful techniques of the crushing stick, including unique striking patterns, off-balancing, joint locking, pinning and twisting, throwing techniques, and choking techniques. This material may be added to any martial art, of any style.

This will be a fun but challenging event. Participants should come with a willingness to share and network with others. Please bring water and a bagged lunch, and wear loose, comfortable clothing (sweats or similar). Afterwards we usually go to dinner and continue our discussions, questions-and-answers, and recaps of what we covered and learned.

When: June 24, 2023, 12 noon to 5pm
Where: Washington Square, NYC
Cost: $60

We will have a limited number of wooden hishigi sticks to lend to participants for the event; bringing your own is encouraged. Please use a (roughly) 10" oak dowel, 3/4" to 1" in diameter, lightly sanded and oiled (linseed is good) to prevent splinters.
