Well, since a staff member at the Seattle Aquarium told me the 2+6 figure, and several Web sites give either 2+6 or 6+2, I would say it is NOT "generally agreed."

Correct. During WWII the USA of course did not have diplomatic ties with Italy. After a bomb attack on Rome the mayor (or was it governor?) asked the pope if he could do anything to get the USA not to bomb Rome again, and the pope had an envoy contact the Knights, who in turn pleaded the case with USA officials. No more bombs fell on Rome.

I'm betting it's John Browning going to work at Winchester Repeating Arms?

Ooh, so close! Browning started working with Winchester in 1883, not 1882, but yes, it was in New Haven. However Andrew gave the answer I was looking for, so it's his turn.

Correct. I was hoping for "The penguin on top of the TV exploded" or "It's eight o'clock, so the penguin on the TV exploded", but your answer contains the information requested in the question.
    Your turn, Will.

    By a zero.

No, not a Japanese Zero fighter plane, but an actual zero. Someone entered a zero into a database that hadn't been programed with proper error trapping, and the resulting attempt by a computer to divide by zero shut down enough ship's systems that the vessel was temporarily disabled.
