The “punch” looks a bit funny to me. (side backfist?). Would this be a tech. That anybody else would use?.

The man is using the outside of his forearm against either the guys jaw or neck. It’s tough to tell in the video but it looks like a little bit of both.

AFAIK he's a tang soo do guy.

Looks like the strike caught the target just under the corner of the jaw. ST9? Certainly dropped him well, assuming this wasn't a set-up.

Greetings,
In our school of Korean Karate and Self Defense, that technique is a reverse suido that went a bit off. The reverse suido has the 'knife hand' side edge of the palm contacting the target, but hey the forearm works too.

1) Yes, it’s hard to tell.Originally Posted by Peter Nicholson

3) Set up? What makes you think so?

Looks legit to me, i've nearly been knocked out by just such a strike, takes less than ya might think heheh, we always were told to use the bony part of the outside wrist/forearms, it's a nice technique.

Just going from memory here - but I doubt it was a set-up.
This has been posted on heaps of forums all over the net.
On one of them, I remember some guys talking about the TSD guy by name - apparently he is quite well known.
The story I heard was that he was actually teaching a seminar for a bunch of LEOs, heard the comotion, went outside and told the guy to lay off the girl.
The rest you can see for yourselves.
Like I said, this is off the top of my head, and I can't vouch for it's accuracy, but it's what I heard.

Based solely on the video, I would say that the korean karate guy was lucky that the other guy didn't know how to fight and didn't have a gun or a knife he was willing to use.
I hate to think of any kids who might watch that kind of thing and go out looking for their chance to show off their vigilante skills.
IMO he put himself at real risk of getting killed on the street.
Just an observation.

2. OK, what do you call it? That point under the corner of the jaw, which, if hit at the right angle, drops you like a sack of ####? or TPUTCOTJWIHATRADYLASOS for short? I have also seen poetic names attached to the meridians and points in some texts, but can never remember them - different texts use different names, or the same names for different points, which all gets very confusing! How about the nerve plexus behind the sternocleidomastoid muscle (might be cervical plexus, but not sure). Maybe I should stick with TPUTCOTJWIHATRADYLASOS for the moment...
3. Just naturally suspicious Seen a few interesting movies on websites that later turned out to be set-ups. This doesn't sound like it, from comments made since my previous post.
Like ZachZinn above, I have been hit with something like this, and it put me down well enough.
Lighten up, dude, I'm trying to learn, not pontificate
