Luckily, I have practiced it in its complete form as a living art. I impart this fortunate opportunity to finding an outstanding and authentic teacher who has an sincere and accurate understanding of the body and heart of koryu. The complete koryu.
Have you? That is interesting. Who is this teacher and what art have you been studying?

Sorry about derailing your thread Nathan, but it doesn't seem like you're getting any responses anyway.

Fantastic glad you are going to take me up on my offer, again I apologize for being so forward before. I don't believe these things should be handled in a public manner, my error. Feel free to PM me. When you do I will be glad to help you.

Nathan -

Never talked about it with my teachers, but, when I was in Japan:
1. Toda-ha Buko-ryu - senior to junior, left to right (joseki to shimoseki)
2. Araki-ryu - not important - teacher faces students, in any order.

As a teacher, now, I've chosen the latter for both ryu.

Best

Isn't it true spirit more valued than technique?
Not for me. Martial arts by definition are arts formulated to develop fighting skills. As such, the most valued part of a "martial art" are the techniques, principles, and tactics. While philosophy and spiritual development are very desirable additions for a martial art, such aspects were incorporated to temper the exponent from becoming unnecessarily violent, or, "evil". With power comes responsibility, so from an *ethical* standpoint, it only makes sense to carefully choose who you teach, and to mold those you do teach into responsible and restrained fighters. But there are many places a person can go that specifically specialize in developing spirituality if that is what they value the most.

Furthermore, there are still many - including myself, who still rely on the teachings of traditional / classical martial arts for professional applications, so please do not speak on behalf of all of us.

Paul, no worries. What are you going to do?

Ellis, thanks for the on-topic response.

Regards,

Mr. Piers,

No problem. We'd prefer if you don't post in other languages though. Not everyone reads Japanese, and such posts simply add to further thread drift. Feel free to start your own thread if you have something you'd like to tell us all about.

Regards,

Please forgive me, I just thought writing to you in Japanese would be more to your proclivity as a professional and qualified exponent of koryu. I was unaware you are one of the most primer qualified experts on koryu. I was unaware of your credentials. I respect your humility. It is honorable that you don't display your titles after your name, or demand others address you as such. *Professional and academic titles, like Ph.D. or any of the titles, shihan etc. in Japanese Koryu arts, that are used commonly by many who have those titles.

Please excuse any assumptions now and previously, on my part. They are completely unintentionally. Please forgive my sophomoric blunder of using Japanese. I didn't understand the proclivity of non-Japanese in the koryu arts circles to limit the use of Japanese to only select terms, and salutations. It was pretentious on my part. I should have observed the practice within non Japanese koryu circles to limit use of Japanese honorifics only, such as "san" and "sama." I assumed stupidly that Japanese honorifics where no longer in vogue. An epic failure on my part.

I hope you understand the difficulty of my lowly position. Your suggestions are taken to heart. Let there be no misunderstanding my use of heart is laudable to respect, consideration, and sincerity. And far from relating to religious/spiritual ethics.

The matter of thread drift, I was not aware I was at fault for starting that. Here again my error. I appreciate your the kind opportunity allowing me to post. When I do have something to say, I will be sure to start a new thread. Since my short time and experience here, I will take that thought under great consideration. I have seen the foolishness of my ways.

I wish many responses to the solution of you conundrum you posted here seeking an answer. It is never settling to have something that presently escapes you- in accordance to your original post. To subscribe to a practice that isn't the authentic method, is awkward. It then becomes a fallacy. You are very fortunate to have such great resources like your peers here on E-Budo to help you out. Paul is out standing and commendable expert on koryu, a person I shamefully over looked.

Best regards, and health to all. So long, farewell, good training to all.

To all, I hope I will not be banned. The odds of that are not in my favor. If I don't post again it will be do to a ban. Subsequently, I will not be able to provide Paul the information he requests. My apologies. Forgive the interruption.

Mr. Piers,

You misunderstood what I meant by "professional". Not sure it that was my fault or yours, but I appreciate the hostility and further thread drift. In any event, if you have nothing useful to post on e-budo in the future, then please don't. There are many other forums that are probably more entertaining.

Cliff, thanks for the on-topic response.

Regards,

Hey Nathan,
I will be seeing Niina Gosoke next week at the West Coast Tai Kai. I'll try and corner him and see what he has to say on the subject. I'll let you know.

Don't be surprised if he evades your attempt to trap him. Watch out for the counter.
