Default Minoru Nishiki??? I need some help here...

Quote:
There is a rumor in Japan that while in the USA, Mr. Minoru Nishiki had hurt somebody with his sword and was expelled from U.S.A. We also hear that before the deportation he sold some menjo papers which were signed with the name of Nakamura Taizaburo sensei.
I received an e-mail from the International Battodo Federation asking about the above incident. If anybody has any knowledge of the accident, when it happened, its location, etc., I would appreciate hearing from you (you can post here or send me private mail, or directly via e-mail).

Likewise, if you or anyone you know of has received a certificate from Mr Nishiki please let me know -- Japan wants a copy of the cert for some internal "problem solving" methods.

The IBF has not come right out and said so, but in their round-about way they are saying that menjo awarded by Mr. Nishiki are invalid.

Regards,
Guy

Question Update: Panama, Karate Kamp 2000??

I just got word that Mr. Nishiki taught iaido at the Karate Kamp 2000 in Panama, May 18~21 2000.

Can anybody who attended Karate Kamp 2000 tell me if the accident happened at this venue? And if it did, please give me the specifics.

My thanks to the person telling me about Panama.

Regards,
Guy

Default Update, 7/22/2002

Okay, now I heard from a little birdie that the incident happened in California (no date provided)
Quote:
I know a Toyama Ryu instructor was arrested and deported from the states after injuring a karate practioner. (The karate camp was in California...) There was some incident between both men (and sword) at a hotel, - not the venue....
Can anyone give me a date and more information?

Thank you very much,
Guy

Default Another Update

I really thank everyone who responded --

And, if you know about the incident and have not told me your version .... "shame on you!"

Quote:
From what I can recall, a Japanese swordsman (name and style unknown) got into some kind of scuffle with a karate instructor while staying!at a shared motel room, during a martial arts demo/seminar. Apparently, the swordsman became upset and drew his sword on the karate instructor. The karate guy in response, lifted the mattress from the bed and used it as a makeshift shield.

The way I remember it, no one was hurt except the mattress. Although he was not arrested (???) the swordsman was sent back to Japan.
Please -- if anyone else knows more, please let me know. ESPECIALLY if you know anything about him handing out certificates.

Best regards,
Guy
