Default How do you say... (see bolded text)

INUYAMA, Aichi -- Democratic Party of Japan (DPJ) House of Representatives member Yukichi Maeda was bashed by a teen as he gave a speech in front of a railway station here Monday morning, police said.

An 18-year-old boy was arrested for assault in the wake of the attack on Maeda, which evoked shocking memories of last week's broad daylight slaying of DPJ Diet member Koki Ishii in Tokyo.

Maeda, however, was not hurt in the attack. The boy, whose identity cannot be disclosed for legal reasons, admits to punching Maeda in the stomach and taking his microphone from him.

"His speech was too loud, so I bashed him to take the microphone off him," the boy told the police.

Police said Maeda was giving a speech in front of Rakuta Station on the Komaki Line when the boy rode up on his bicycle and suddenly assailed the 42-year-old legislator. While screaming that he intended to "kill all you lot," the boy punched Maeda in the stomach and the pair grappled over possession of the microphone. A police officer raced to the scene and arrested the boy.

A right-wing extremist has been arrested for Ishii's Oct. 25 murder. Maeda was supposed to attend the slain politician's funeral in Tokyo on Monday afternoon. (Mainichi Shimbun, Oct. 28, 2002)
