Ken,
Interesting point...
I was training my Battojutsu in the school hall here (High School) and using an Iaito to do so....Several of the kids I train with in the Kendo-bu stopped by and wanted...
Luca,
I don't think that anyone has stated that it wasn't done...Randori is still used in many koryu (at least Jujutsu schools, Kenjutsu I'm sure wouldn't disregard the practice if it helped) and...
Tony is still here in Japan, and as far as I know not planning on leaving soon... But I'm sure he'll be here to confirm what's happening about the Gyofukan soon enough...
There is a very good...
Gary...
I think Steve would tell you the same, but Sosuishi's chiburi is meant to be done with a cloth, not the fingers as it is done in training...I'd guess at least, I've only seen it demoed, and...
Ben's entirely correct, "Kaiten chiburi" is 360 degrees (we do it too, and have no relation with the Shinto Ryu)...Although there are several other differences in the way we do it and the way I've...
I've tried throwing pretty damned hard (It makes actually getting the thing to stick in rather more of a problem I've found), and never gone deeper than about several centimetres.. In wood anyway.....
The closest I have seen (apart from the scene in "Furinkazan" of course) was the Odachi techniques demonstrated by the Owari line of the Shinkage Ryu (Under Kato Sensei)..It's sadly not...
I've just noticed Pat Harrington's name in the list of teachers for Eric Waters...Perhaps there is a connection through her?She is a Menkyo in Sosuishi Ryu for sure, although I'm not sure what else...
After reading this site's write up of Mr. Waters' history in Jujutsu I would suspect that he was un-associated with the branches of Sekiguchi Ryu in Japan (the Koryu schools), however, "Sekiguchi"...
Heheh...Yeah..That pattern fits!
And yeah, I remembered it being used most commonly for lawyers, but wasn't sure if that was a fixed rule or not in the States..
We don't use it much in the UK...
Wayne, it's all a matter of perspective, but I've been saying that for years!! ;)
And I think the in the picture posted above there's a "T" missing isn't there? Shouldn't it say "Tosu" (Japanese...
We do it too..
Takenouchi Ryu (Or more particularly Bicchu den Battojutsu)..
Just a little though..
What needs explaining?
I simply pointed out that it wasn't Paul being referred to but yourself..That's all..
Ahh...
Sorry...I forgot that Americans don't use "esquire" to mean...
Sadly that record continues mate... ;)
I think he meant "Phil Scudieri Esq.".......
.....Who told you about this?
There's been a leak somewhere dammit! It was Wayne wasn't it? Arggghhh...We're doomed!
Seriously though...If you look closely..In the Takeuchi Ryu Kogusoku kata...
Ah...And I think that the proper Jojutsu section is being done to the far right...Right of the Shinbo group in the middle..
Aye...Wayne covered us all...
Good video, but sadly they missed filming Takagi Sensei flipping Tony over for Gokui Saide...(I wanted to see it, but only because I love that waza..It's probably...
Visa's can be extended indefinitely...There are three year and one year working visas available..Both with unlimited extension periods as long as you have work in place that will support your claim...
Hey Fred..
What makes you think it's koryu?
According to the website it's "muso shinden ikkan ryu"....Taught by a Machida Sensei in Noda, Chiba, Japan...But it doesn't look like Koryu..Maybe...
I'd say that due to the majority of Ryuha having some kind of rule that prohibited (officially at least) the use of dueling to settle matters, that the chance of the Ryu keeping official logs of...
I don't study the Shinkage Ryu, but I've seen and read a fair bit and I think that the answer is that they have sets for both the Fukuro Shinai and the Bokuto....So depending on the set you are...
Cool website Al...
And there's a photo of the back of my shaven head heading up to the Yama no Dojo last Ryusosai too...Well, even more reason for me to declare it a fine website...
(Cause'...
Oh..As for the osame motion, I can't say for sure why it's done like that, but I would guess that since the school is not a "battlefield" art, and never was, it is probably more to do with learning...
That's the Okayama Daigaku Kobudobu..
They train in Takeuchi Ryu Kogusoku and Imaeda Shinryu Jo...As well as another associated Iaijutsu Ryuha, the Shisen Ryu..All are trained under the...
