Glad to see it back!
Nice to see the Forum back!
Bumping this - we're still teaching on Monday and Wednesday nights - heading back to Japan for training and Taikai in November after a 3 year break
Our first embu in...
Due to space constraints at my primary Dojo space, I have secured a second site for training.
It's in Annandale, so much closer to the CBD and Transport.
I will have slots for new students who...
Indeed - I know of a few people who use them to justify their lineage which is bizarre.
Like I said, I found another insurer with very good rates who are NOT MAIA!
As an FYI, the MAIA is a body that handles insurance in Australia. I looked into using them but you have to get all of your first-aid training through them as well which was a red flag to me. They...
It also depends if you are charging for your lessons to make a profit or to just cover costs.
I teach the way I am taught by observation and repetition (with correction) - which is the standard...
My only real beef with the website is that he seems to have everything for sale. The DVDs for me are a red flag.
I remember the original website from the OP was also quite critical of other Sword...
Same here - I think once they are hooked, women make outstanding students.
One of mine has recently returned after her second maternity leave!

IBF representatives in NSW
Short trip this year sadly
I believe there is no limit to the number they can make, it's the number they can register/sell.
Always interesting to re-read your own posts from 8 years ago!
I use an 11 Year old Tozando Iaito with more chips than Walkers for Kumitachi
All kata and tameshigiri I use an Okamoto Shinken from Gifu, made for me in 2010
Nice to see the forum back.
One counter to your point is that more people fail at Horizontal cuts in Tameshigir than Kesagiri. The hand position for Kesagiri works to generate power.
Sorry for the late reply, Server failure last week had me out of action.
I did have a feeling it was Kirioroshi - we do not use kirioroshi in our Kata apart from some Seizan work.
All of our...
Mine is also Tozando.
Which particular cut is the predominant culprit?
Now now Ken, you were the one who made a blanket statement first about Seriousness. If you dish it out, you've got to expect them back ;)
Re hitting a beam - that was in my first six months of...
There is something severely wrong with either the source of your blades or the training method.
I've hit a steel joist with my Tozando Zinc-alloy blade and it's still going strong 8 years later.
...
Thank you for that.
As someone who is tentatively assisting others in a study group, that answers a lot of questions and suspicions I've had.
I want to hear more about the broomstick dude. If it took the police officer 3 rounds and SMR training, what did the other guy have?
He's a legend...
....in his own lunchtime
Indeed. Laboured.
Is there some kind of rule that the higher the dodgy factor in a Ryu, the better their dojo is?
Plenty would forget that once the lucre starts rolling though :look:
Money and Politics - the bane of MA
There is nothing wrong with getting paid for instruction.
I just don't think it should be your main source of income.
