I'm still here, although not very actively anymore. Thanks for the update.
Sounds familiar. What city was that in?
Agreed. Not effective, and would likely only make bleeding worse.
The problem with multiple wraps would be in tightening them enough to stanch the flow of arterial blood. A single turn can easily be tightened with a handle of some sort, but multiple turns would...
Similar for me, although the other way around. We ran the sageo through the kurigata, then took the other end and tied a simple overhand loop around it with the inserted side. We could then slide the...
I don't know the geography of New York, so I don't know how far the Bronx is from Queens, but here's one place you might want to look into:

I'm not replacing any of my friends. Pretty soon I'll be a lone wolf, and when I die no one will have to try to replace me.

Oh...too late. Oh well, it made for some good interaction.
I think you hit the nail on the head. Nishiyama Shihan probably said "shinan," and in the process of writing, editing, and publishing the article it got mistranscribed as "shihan."
Phonetically, yes; "finger" is "shi" as in "shiatsu" (finger-pressure massage), but it's a different kanji than in shihan: finger is 指, versus the 師 in shihan.
I have no idea about the "han" meaning...
I agree, and in fact Sugawara Sensei co-authored with Lujian Xing a book wherein they compared Aikido and Chinese martial arts, and he also published a book on "T'ai Chi Swordplay." It wouldn't...
Without seeing the kata in question I couldn't say, but there are jo kata within Aikido, perhaps the most well-known being 'sanjuichi-no-jo' (AKA 31 jo kata). While some Aikido dojo may not practice...
Just remember that the further from the floor mount you hit, the more flexion there will be in the makiwara. Low strikes will be against an essentially immovable object, so don't use irresistible...
If you're feeling a hard end of range of motion, rather than a soft one, there may be a problem that should be checked out by a doctor. That said, to increase ROM you normally need to stretch the...

Interesting topic.
The Year of the Dog will begin on February 16, 2018 of the Gregorian calendar. The Year of the Dog's element is Earth, and the energy is Yang.
If the purpose of "slapping" the mat is to lessen the force of impact on the body (For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.), then the angle from the body best at absorbing impact...
Actually it seems to be you who is "rolling with assumptions." You asked what difference it made if Funakoshi did or did not use certain terms, and I answered your question. I did not say that you...
I assumed from your user name, "Shoto123," that you were expressing some expertise in Shotokan. I guess that's not the case.
It's relevant because if one is stating what Funakoshi's teachings...
You may have had it wrong for 30+ years: It's "jiyu kumite," not "juyi kumite."
I don't know that Krampus is ever really happy, even on Krampusnacht, when he accompanies Saint Nicholas to visit children. After all, Jolly Ol' St. Nick gives the good children toys, while Krampus...
